STRIPES

I am a HUGE stripes lover and I absolutely love, love, love this dress! Last July when I visited my Mama in New York this dress was hanging in her closet begging to be worn, so I decided to help her clean out a little bit, by taking it with me :-)  and because it's a little big I always belt it. I can honestly live in this dress. I have dressed it up with wedges and pumps and dressed down with flat, loafers and sandals. This morning while trying to decide on something to wear, I reached for this dress and was originally going to wear it with wedges but I was too sore (crazy kickboxing class) so I settled for my trusty loafer style flats.

   New York, last July with Target nude flats, Forever 21 headband and Louis Vuitton handbag stolen  borrowed from my Mom.

BASICS

I came home from work and when my husband saw how pretty the skies were he decided to take a few photos, so excuse the shiny face :-) As much as I love bright colors, some days I like going back to basics. Black, gray and white are so classic and can be paired with any color! I've had this blouse in my closet for a while so I decided to take it for spin and my super bright purple handbag served a nice pop of color. Hope you're all looking forward to the weekend.

PEPLUM AND FLORAL

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend, I got lots of rest, and baked some delicious banana bread with my friend Marianne.

I am not one to plan my outfit the night before because I usually change my mind in the morning. I like waking up and putting my clothes together depending on my mood. And this morning was a peplum and floral kind of morning. The peplum trend is another one that's been making the rounds in the form of skirts, tops and dresses for the past few seasons, and it's another one I've embraced. A peplum top can be styled many ways; with the addition of a few key pieces, such as statement jewelry and a belt you can have a dressed up look. This morning, I decided to pair my peplum blouse with this lovely floral panel pencil skirt and my purple Coach handbag my husband got me last year.

SKATER GIRL

Let's talk about the skater dress trend! As you saw in my first outfit post I am a huge fan of the trend. When this trend came back on the scene last year, I immediately gravitated towards it, not only because in my head I am the long lost sister of Surya Bonaly but also because I believe it is a timeless, ultra feminine and versatile look. It can be worn by women of all shapes and sizes, once it's the proper size. The skater dress also reminds me of babydoll dresses, as a child I loved those dresses and couldn't stop twirling when I was wearing one and believe it or not, I twirl every time I wear a skater dress or any dress for that matter.

The heat and humidity here in the British Virgin Islands makes the skater dress a practical option for me  and I love that I can dress it up for a night out or for work or dress it down for a little stroll.

Last Saturday night my husband and I went out with a friend to a party and I paired my skater dress with a gold belt  for a more polished look, and wedges.

THE PINK PANTS

Almost everyone I have asked has a favorite color, me? No ma'am, I refuse to settle for a favorite when there are so many pretty colors or maybe I am just indecisive in the color choosing department. As a child I remember my favorite color changing weekly, if not daily. I bought this pair of pink pants (or trousers, as my English boss would call them) on a work trip, when I saw them I was instantly convinced that pink is my favorite color, but somehow they managed to hang in my closet for months unworn, until this morning. So much for favorite color huh.

Am I the only one struggling in the favorite color department?

PS: I finally got box braids! I am one step closer to Janet Jackson Poetic Justice realness :-)

FLOWER POWER

J. Crew's Creative Director was recently quoted in the May issue of Harper's Bazaar "The idea of a uniform is like a slow and painful death to me. There is nothing I like more than getting dressed" and I couldn't agree with her more. Apart from loving my job, I love that it's a pretty relaxed environment. We are free to wear anything we like, since we don't show up in booty shorts and crop tops. 

I am not one to shy away from a bold or bright print, or both. Last summer when I visited my mom in New York and I saw this lovely little number hanging in her closet, I immediately claimed it and she didn't protest. I love everything about this dress, the silhouette, the colors, the print, EVERYTHING. I wore this to work yesterday as a casual Friday outfit. The possibilities are endless with this dress.

Excuse Me While I INTRODUCE Myself

Hi! and welcome to my new hobby. I have had many people; family, friends, colleagues and strangers encouraging me to start blogging for a long time. I toyed around with the idea for a while and dismissed it every time, until I walked into work last week and one of my colleagues took one look at me and said "I don't get why you're holding yourself back, start a blog, do something" I smiled at her and promised I will do something, and here I am!

I am a 26 year old professional, married to my high school sweetheart and living on a beautiful little island. I love all things fashion and fabulous, but also believe that one can stay fab without going broke. I am quite possibly the thriftiest person you will ever encounter, just ask my husband :-). However, I do allow myself to splurge every now and then. Join me on this journey, as I share my personal style with you and encourage all of you to use this blog as a platform to share your opinions on all things fashionable and fabulous.
